A living room for Vienna.
There has been a place on Karmeliterplatz since 1991. We took it over in 2010 — kept the name, rethought the concept completely. The dream was an inn with a hall for concerts, exhibitions and evenings you do not forget in a hurry.
Since then posters of the Polish poster school of the 1960s hang on the walls, Polish jazz plays next to Viennese classics, black-and-white films run across the wall. A bar has become a cultural meeting point in the Karmeliter quarter: musicians, writers, actors — and wonderfully ordinary people who come for the food and leave as friends.
why „tachles"?
„Tachles" comes from Yiddish and means: get to the point, speak without detours. We kept the name out of respect for the history and the many cultures of the second district, with which Jewish life has been closely bound for centuries. And because it says what we stand for: honesty and good cooking without unnecessary ingredients.

A chef by trade, a music lover and an athlete by passion. A one-man orchestra with an open ear — for the team as much as for the guests. Everyone calls him the soul of the house. Enquiries about the cellar land with him too.

Founder · the power behind the scenes
Her kingdom is the kitchen: there she weighs, measures and refines our grandmothers’ recipes and her own like an alchemist. She holds the team together — mother, teacher and guardian in one. Her subjects: alchemy, astrology, astronomy, dance and happy full stomachs.

A musician and a mathematician, committed to human rights, to helping, to art and culture. Our quiet adviser whenever something gets complicated.

Where Chopin would have felt at home.
He played in Vienna before Paris kept him. We have a piano in the cellar, and the Austrian Chopin Society is one of the houses we work with.
